Presidency of Radio France: justified decision relating to the revocation of Mathieu Gallet

Official statement of the Wednesday, January 31, 2018

The Superior council of audio-visual, joined together this day in plenary assembly, decided to withdraw his mandate with the President of Radio France Mathieu Gallet. This decision will take effect starting from March 1st, 2018. Monsieur Mathieu Gallet was condemned in first authority on January 15th to a one year sorrow of suspended sentence and to the payment of a fine of 20,000 euros for offence of favouritism, at the time of the mandate which he exercized at the National institute of the Audio-visual one. He appealed against the judgement.

The Council made up its mind at the conclusion of a procedure respecting the contradictory one. At the end of a collegial debate, he took into account the general interest and the good performance of the audio-visual public service other than any other consideration.

It estimated in particular that to ensure under good conditions the management of a held company at 100% by the State, it matters that the relations of exchange and dialogue between the representatives of the State and the general president-director of the company are dense, trustful and permanent, in a context of major reform of the audio-visual public announced by the executive power.

The Council is particularly sensitive to the questions of deontology, of conflict prevention of interests and raising the moral standard of the public life which are strong concerns of the citizens and public authorities.
