Creation of the ERGA/February 4th, 2014

G. with Dr.: Roberto Viola (assistant DG of the DG Connect, European Commission), Neelie Kroes (vice-president in charge of the digital Diary, European Commission), Olivier Schrameck (president of the CSA, chair ERGA), Madeleine de Cock Buning, president of the CvM (Netherlands), vice-president of the ERGA), Jan Dworak (president of KRiTT (Poland), vice-president of the ERGA), Lorena Boix-Alonso (chief of the unit “Media and convergent contents” of the DG Connect, European Commission)/Photo CSA.

Olivier Schrameck, president of the Superior council of audio-visual, was elected on March 4th, 2014 with the first presidency of the group of the European regulators of the services of audio-visual mediums (European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services) unanimously. The president and the president of the authorities of the Netherlands and Poland were elected vice-presidents. This first mandate will be exercized until the end of 2015.

The creation of this group, which gathers the authorities of regulation of audio-visual of the twenty-eight Member States of the Union, falls under the continuity of the initiative taken by the president of the CSA to join together in Paris, last September, several presidents of authorities of regulation from the point of view of one co-operation at the level of the European Union.

Created by a decision of the European Commission of February 3rd, 2014, pursuant to article 30 of directive SMA (Services of audio-visual mediums), this group bringing together the leaders of the regulatory authorities will make a contribution coordinated and operational to the Commission in the evolution of the European legal framework, on such decisive subjects for the evolution of the regulation of audio-visual as the convergence of the services of media to the era of digital, the protection of public, freedom of expression and pluralism, and the assertion of the independence of the regulatory authorities.

This group will thus make it possible the European regulators to meet regularly to develop exchanges on subjects of shared interest and to share their diversified experiments and practices.

Work of this group will express the collective identity of the regulators of the Member States of the European Union, in particular for the definition of coordinated positions which cannot be conceived that within the European framework.
