The CSA has the role of planning the radioelectric resource for the diffusion of radios in France. Within the framework of a plan of optimization of the FM band, it, between 2006 and 2010, released an average of 22% of additional frequencies which it then could allot to the operators. Today, beside the public groups that are Radio France for the Metropolitan France, RFO for France overseas and RFI for the other countries, nearly 900 private operators emit in the Hexagon.
A private radio which wishes being diffused in France must carry out a certain number of formalities: selection within the framework of a call to candidatures launched by the CSA, signature of a convention then authorization of use of frequency within the framework of a service diffused by terrestrial hertzian way; signature of a convention or simple declaration in the case of a service diffused by another network.
By a daily follow-up, the CSA makes sure that the services of radio operator concerning his competence respect, in addition to the fundamental principles which are the respect of the human dignity and the safeguarding of the law and order, their obligations as regards programs.
