French-speaking quotas of songs: 5 operators put in residence

Official statement of the Wednesday, September 1, 1999

At his full session of August 31st, 1999, the Superior council of audio-visual, in accordance with his missions defined by the law of the modified September 30th, 1986, decided to put in residence five radiophonic operators, RTL 2, Dear FM, Nostalgie, RFM and Me FM, for non-observance of the quota of diffusion of new talents and new French-speaking productions during the month of last July; the private operators indeed must, pursuant to the law of February 1st, 1994, to diffuse 40% of songs of French expression of which the half coming from new talents or new productions. These formal notices make following the mails of warning statement addressed to these same stations, for the same reasons, on the basis of result noted last May.

The Council can however only deplore the rigidity of the law on this point in comparison with the increasing diversity of the formats, source of wealth and pluralism for the listeners.
