Lower sound volume on television: France pionnier

Official statement of the Monday, December 17, 2012

Whereas the United States will start to on television impose a fall of sound of the advertising screens, France, thanks to the action of the Superior council of audio-visual, can be pleased to have been the first to apply this sound reduction.

On July 19th, 2011, the CSA decided measurements which came into force, on all the chains, by December 2011, namely:

  • the reduction of the variations of sound volume enters the advertising screens and the programs ;
  • the reduction of the variations of sound volume enters the chains themselves.

The CSA notes today that for the first time besides 20 years, the number of the complaints allotted to this nuisance fell by half in 2012.
