Public channels

The public sector of television in France is gathered since the law of March 5th, 2009 within the single company France Televisions, whose president is named by decree for five years after assent of the CSA and opinion of the parliamentary commitees in charge of the cultural affairs. The vote of this law, concluding the debates carried out within the framework from the reform of the audio-visual public, resulted in a recasting of the organization and obligations of France Televisions. The group became a single company publishing a set of services and answering only one specifications, of which most obligations were shared.

France Televisions publishes the national television services France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and France Ô. are added to it unhookings and the regional television services of France 3 and the network Overseas 1st.

The specifications of the missions and of France 2, France 3 and France 5 were replaced by single specifications of France Televisions adopted by the decree n° 2009-796 of June 23rd, 2009. It was modified by the decree n° 2010-253 of March 10th, 2010. This text gathers all the obligations of the chains published by France Televisions to reinforce the idea of a single group and a true complementarity of the chains.

Logo France 2
General channel of the public sector, it offers diversified programming, intended to reach a large audience. Its ambition is to join together all the public ones around a broad and varied offer, nourished by the event and French and European creation cinematographic and audio-visual. The chain also plays a main function information sport.
Logo France 3
Chain national proximity with regional and local vocation, it supports the social link and the debate citizen by proposing programs of information, in particular regional. Its programming is strongly marked by the will to reflect the diversity of the economic life, social and cultural in area through magazines, the documentary ones and original fictions.
Logo France 4
Is conceived like complementary to other chains of France Televisions. “Chain of youth and the new generations”, it has the role of contributing to reinforce the development of the innovation and creation. By its contents of programming, it aims to the renovation of the audience of public televisions.
Logo France 5
Chain decoding, division of the knowledge and transmission of knowledge, it is charged to conceive and program TV programs in educational matter and supporting the access to the knowledge, knowledge, the formation and employment. This programming must also contribute to education with the image and the media, in bond with the educational medium.

Chain co-education and cultural diversity, it offers through its offer of magazines, debates and live performances, a window of choice to all the components which take part of the identity of the national community, in particular with the overseas populations.
Arte
Arte, the European cultural chain, was born from a treaty between the French State and Länder German signed in 1990. Two shareholders, Sept-Arte for France and Arte Deutschland for Germany, hold each one 50% of the capital of the chain. Arte is not controlled by the CSA. The chain is indeed subjected to the monitoring and the control of the only members, “other than any intervention of public authority, including independent authorities in charge of the regulation of audio-visual in the country of the seat”.

The Parliamentary chain was created by the law of December 30th, 1999. It comprises, with parity of time of antenna, the emissions of two chains, one for the National Assembly, LCP - National Assembly, the other for the Senate, Public-Senate. The Parliamentary chain has a public service mission: the information and training of the citizens to the public life by parliamentary, educational and civic programs. It must take care of the impartiality of its programs. The company of program, as well as the diffused emissions, do not belong to the authority of the CSA.

TF1 The chain proposes programming diversified general practitioner which is addressed to the whole of the public. TF1 books in particular an important place with information, with audio-visual and cinematographic creation French, the emissions for youth like with the Entertainment and the most popular sports. Thus, the chain daily diffuses two complete editions of newspapers of information, regularly proposes, at prime times, magazines of information and news and offer of the emissions intended for youth, in particular of the magazines, at the days and hours when this public is available. In evening, the chain devotes a significant portion of its antenna to the audio-visual fiction like with the Entertainment.
M6
Metropolis Television The chain proposes primarily musical fictions, games, programs as well as magazines and the documentary ones. Since the date of its launching, M6 accentuated the character general practitioner of its programming. The data is processed in magazines of information and, since September 7th, 2009, M6 proposes two daily newspapers of information.
BFMTV
BFM TV Information uninterrupted, particularly economic and financial information.
C8 logo
Group Canal+ The chain C Star succeeded D8 in September 2016. Its programming is general practitioner, intended for the general public and privileges the new emissions, the live emissions, the retransmissions of events, information, the entertainment, the discovery of the new talents, the culture and the cinema. The chain diffuses live performances (theatre, including reading on scene, dance, opera, concert, circus, cabaret, musical, one-man show, show of street, theatre workshop, etc).
CStar logo
Group Canal+ The chain C Star succeeded D17 in September 2016. The editor proposes musical programming intended for the general public. The chain offers diversified musical programs, in particular of videomusic, Entertainment, emissions of musical news, emissions devoted to the new talents, the documentary ones as well as magazines.
Gulli
Youth TV (Lagardere - France Televisions) Destiny firstly with the children from 6 to 14 years, the programming is also addressed to the parents and aims at supporting the social link. Taking into account its public, the offer of programs is diversified, turned towards the awakening and the entertainment. The bank holiday days before, Gulli proposes programs for the parents and the children.
CNews logo
SESI (Canal+) Information uninterrupted, on all the fields of the news. C News succeeded I-TV in February 2017.
NRJ12
NRJ TV Offer programs strongly centered on the entertainment, also made up of magazines, videomusic, cinematographic works, fictions and documentary. The chain also treats cultural life and leisures.
Logo NT1
NT1 (TF1) Programming general practitioner and diversified which is addressed to the whole of the public. An important place is devoted to information with the daily diffusion of a newspaper, like with audio-visual and cinematographic creation French and the family Entertainment. The service is also held to offer programs to the young public, at the hours when this one is available.

TV Monte Carlo (TF1) Addresses itself to all the public ones. The programming is general practitioner and understands all the kinds of programs: fiction, cinema, magazine, documentary, as well as a daily slice of information, sport and emissions for youth.
W9
EDI TV (M6) Chain intended for the general public and more particularly for the young adults. Its programming is mainly musical. Opened with the various musical genres, the chain must in particular ensure the diffusion of 52 live performances a year and devote at least 20% of its programming to new talents of the song of French expression. The chain supplements its grid by the diffusion of audio-visual and cinematographic works.

HD1 is dedicated to the fiction in all its components: cinema, audio-visual fictions, short fictions and short films, as well as new forms of writing. The editor proposes a new daily serial and programs devoted to the cinema news and the fiction.

- starting from 2015, the entirety of the time of diffusion is devoted, between 4 p.m. and midnight, with programs in real high definition, is at least 52 hours on average weekly, and the diffusion, within the limit of 4 hours, on average weekly magazine, certain programs whose diffusion is authorized in standard definition;
- starting from 2016, at least 90 hours of programs are diffused between midnight and 16 hours, on average weekly magazine, in real high definition.

Amaury Editions

L'Equipe 21 is devoted to the sport and its diversity. The editor proposes sporting retransmissions, newspapers of information, magazines, reports and the documentary ones dealing with all the disciplines. The programming is supplemented by programs of Entertainment and cinematographic works.

Metropolis Television Groups M6

6Ter is a chain of the M6 group which makes a varied offer of programs bound for all the families. This offer of programs comprises magazines, the documentary ones, audio-visual fiction, being able to be shared by the children, the parents and the grandparents. The programming also understands cinema and Entertainment. Many evenings are devoted to the discovery and the comprehension of the world.

Number 23 reflects the diversity of the French company in all its components and the opening on the world: diversity of the origins, the cultures, the personal and family lifestyles, as well as physical conditions, parity. The editor proposes the documentary ones, magazines, series and telefilms. The programming also understands cinematographic works and the offer of cinema will be devoted in particular to the cinema of author of the whole world.

RMC Discovered offers a service of documentary devoted to the discovery and knowledge. Intended for a large audience, the chain treats a large variety of subjects. The offer of programs is built around evenings sets of themes, with the documentary ones in first diffusion.
